B. Joyce Deike, 78, of Donahoe Manor, formerly of Breezewood, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2012. She was born Wednesday, July 5, 1933 in Washington, DC, a daughter of the late Ulric C. Deike and Lillian G. (Clark) Deike. She is survived by her sister in law, Mary (Draper) Deike, of Hagerstown, and 5 nephews and their families, Randall Deike and wife Jan, of New York, NY Gregory Deike and wife Roni, of Chambersburg Jeffrey Deike and wife Donna, of Sylvan Eric Deike and wife Sheryl, of Hagerstown, and Mark Deike of Needmore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in passing away by a brother Roderic B. Deike. Joyce was a member of the Oakton Virginia Church of the Brethren and of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Everett. She was a life long artist and writer who was active in many local activities, serving as a charter member of the Friends of the Everett Free Library, the Bedford County Art Society, the Bedford County Covered Bridge Society, the Bedford County Pioneer Historical Society, and the Bedford County Humane Society. For the 1976 Bicentennial Celebration of the United States, Joyce wrote the official Bedford County song for the event, and will be greatly missed for her friendship and the contributions she shared with so many. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the Everett Cemetery with Pastor John Bayer, Jr. officiating. Friends may call at the cemetery on Tuesday from 12:30 pm until the hour of service and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com. Burial will be held at Everett Cemetery.
