Barbara D. Murphy, 88, of Everett, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
She was born in Washington D.C., on October 15, 1936, a daughter of the late Edgar and Barbara (Lange) Winner.
In September 1955, in Washington, D.C., she married Floyd D. Murphy.
Barbara is survived by four sons, Patrick Murphy and wife, Lynn, Dennis Murphy and wife, Elyse, Michael Murphy and wife, Melanie, and John Murphy and wife, Kimberly; three daughters, Kathleen Zimmerman and husband, Samson, Mary Porter and husband, Gordon, and Elizabeth Dhlosh and husband, John; a brother, Stavros; 24 grandchildren; over 100 great-grandchildren because she fostered and raised anyone who needed her care; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in passing by a brother, Edward Winner.
After graduating high school, Barbara worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company for many years.
Barbara was characterized by her warmth, compassion, and strong desire to care for and support her family and friends. As a mother, she provided emotional support and guidance to her children.
She was a very religious woman who attended church her entire life. She and her husband were missionaries in Uganda and supported the mission in Burkina Faso. They were the primary sponsors for the orphanage in Burkina Faso.
Barbara loved making handmade cards of all kinds in her spare time.
A memorial service will be held on December 21, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Breezewood Lighthouse Assembly of God.
