Benjamin Tresselt Jr. Obituary

Benjamin G. Tresselt, Jr., 74, of Hopewell, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2014. He was born Monday June 10, 1940 in Waynesboro, a son of the late Benjamin G. Tresselt, Sr., and Florence (Ralph) Tresselt. On June 27, 1964 he married Carole A. (Karr) Tresselt who passed away on Sunday, February 27th, 2011. He is survived by their sons, Benjamin G. Tresselt, III, and wife Tina (Hall) Tresselt, of Lancaster Mark C. Tresselt, and wife Tina (Trammell) Tresselt, of Blanco, TX Anthony E. Tresselt, and wife Susan Liefeld-Tresselt, of Pomeroy, and four 4 grandchildren, Janelle, Noah, Shaylin, and Maggie. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in passing away by two sisters, Rita Marie (Tresselt) Priest-Graham and Beryl Josephine (Tresselt) Bowling and two brothers, Hugh Tresselt and James J. Tresselt. Mr. Tresselt was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Everett where he was a member of the choir and served as a Church custodian, sharing his skills as a pretty good handyman.. He was a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Management in 1964, and after graduation, worked as a Vegetation Forester for Potomac Edison Power Company He then took a position as a manager and sales consultant for Bartlett Tree Experts in Exton, working there for over 19 years, and then for another 3 years, worked with his son Ben at his family owned company, Arborist Enterprises in Manheim. After moving to Hopewell, he continued to work as a Consultant Forester until retiring. Throughout his lifetime, Ben was a member of the International Society of Arboriculture, the Society of American Foresters, and a Director of the Penn State University School of Forest Resources Alumni Group and chair of the Arboricultural Committee. He was also a Pennsylvania Forest Stewardship Plan Writer, a Certified Tree Farm Inspector, Director of Pennsylvania Urban and Community Forestry Council, and a guest lecturer at Penn State School of Forest Resources Urban Forestry classes and School of Horticulture Arborist training classes. Very important to Ben was his membership, education and work with the Boy Scouts of America. To start, he was a Lone Scout when a local chapter was not available, was a Scoutmaster for New Holland Troop # 137, served as District Commissioner for the Fort Bedford Boy Scouts of America, and served as a Camp Ranger for several years, being responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, and proper use of camp facilities. With a great interest in Native American history and its presentation, Ben also provided talented reenactments of Native American history and culture, including performances at Old Bedford Village. He will be remembered for his patriotism, courage, and dedication to his wife, family and so many others friends throughout the years. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, September 16th, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Everett, with Rev. Derek Fairman officiating and Rev. Richard Tomkosy co-officiating. Friends may call at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett, on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, on Tuesday from 10:00 am until departure for the Church, and share memories online at dallavalle-everett.com. Burial will be held at St. Thomas Cemetery, Bedford. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Ben to the American Cancer Society, 1004 North Juniata Street, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
