Betty Zellers, 86, of Wells Tannery, most recently of Colonial Courtyard at Bedford, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 15th, 2019.
She was born Sunday, February 26th, 1933, at her family home in Hopewell, a daughter of the late Thomas G. Reed and Irene R. (Helsel) Reed.
On September 10th, 1954 in Winchester, Virginia, she married Charles Zellers, Jr. who passed away on October 2nd, 2001.
She is survived by their children,
Terry Zellers and wife Linda (Aller) Zellers of Hopewell,
C. Barry Zellers and wife Karin (Crawford) Zellers of Hopewell,
Debra K. Hanks and husband Ken Hanks of Round Knob, Six Mile Run,
10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren,
Two sisters, Mona Rice and husband Roger Rice of Everett, and Bev Shaffron and husband Bill of Everett, Two brothers, Bill Reed of Hopewell and John Reed and wife Connie of Hopewell, and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in passing away by an infant sister Shirley Reed, two sisters Gloria Burns and Shelby Karns, and two brothers Wayne Reed and Jay Reed.
Mrs. Zellers was of the Presbyterian faith. A graduate of the Robert P. Smith School, she first worked as a waitress at Snyder's Gateway Inn and Restaurant in Breezewood. After her marriage to Charles, they moved to Bethel Park in Pittsburgh where she was a dedicated wife and mother who enjoyed raising her family.
As the kids grew up, Betty began working as a cook at the lunch counter for the Sears department store at South Hills Village Mall. She then worked as a sales clerk at Sears until retiring in 1989 when she and Charles moved back to their home of Fulton and Bedford County.
She loved taking care of her home and family, and no task was too big for her, from cutting the lawn to cooking for 20 guests, a life's chore she truly loved. If the men were out hunting, they could call home and say they were coming in and Betty would have breakfast ready. If it were a holiday or family get together, cooking for her family was a big joy in her life, as she loved all time spent for and with her family. If you went away hungry, it was your own fault, as she always had something for everyone.
Though her first love was her family, Betty also liked her time playing bingo be it at Six Mile Run- Robertsdale, Everett or with her friends at Colonial Courtyard. She will be remembered for being mom and grandma to a family for whom she truly lived and loved, and will be greatly missed.
