Clair Ritchey Obituary

Clair F. Ritchey, 90, of Everett, passed away on Sunday, October 5th, 2014 with his family at his side. He was born Sunday, June 29th, 1924 at his family home in Everett, a son of the late Scott Ritchey and Lena (McFarland) Ritchey. On August 12th, 1946 in Cumberland, he married Junella (Scalia) Ritchey who passed away on May 15th, 1998. He is survived by their children, Michael S. Ritchey and wife Lynne M. (Anderson) Ritchey, of Everett Shawn S. Ritchey and wife Karen R. (Burt) Ritchey, of Everett Calvin L. Ritchey and wife Valerie (Bellanger) Ritchey, of Forest, Virginia Six grandchildren, Michael S. Ritchey, Rachelle E. Reasey, Sarah R. Ritchey, Jessica A. Ritchey, Melissa Ritchey, and Juliette M. Ritchey, Three sisters, Alice Ritchey of Everett, Ina Miller and husband Earl Miller, of Everett, and Esther Blackstone of Everett; And three brothers, Rev. H. Lee Ritchey and wife Clara, of Everett James "Jim" Ritchey and wife Sandy, of North Carolina, and John M. Ritchey and wife Mabel, of Bedford. In addition to his parents and wife Junella, he was preceded in passing away by a son Clair F. Ritchey, Jr., three sisters, Helen Riley, Linda Richardson and Lois Clark, and two brothers, Scott H. Ritchey Jr. and William C. "Bill" Ritchey. A graduate of the Robert P. Smith School, Class of 1942, Clair first worked in construction before his service in the United States Navy as an Electrician's Mate P1 during World War II in the Pacific Theater aboard a Navy destroyer escort, the USS Witter. He then served in the United States Naval Reserves as an Electrician's Mate P2 during the Korean War, having served as a Ship Electrician aboard the USS Malloy, while also working as an electrician at home. After his service to his country, Clair was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, working as a general electrician until retiring. A 65-year member of the Everett American Legion Post #8, he enjoyed fly-fishing and salt water fishing, especially on his trips to Chincoteague Island, and also enjoyed vegetable gardening, tinkering around his home and spending time outdoors in the woods. Dedicating his spirit to our Lord when his brother Bill passed away in 2013, Clair was never one to sit idle and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be greatly missed for the times he shared with his family and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 10th, 2014 at 11:00am at the Community Grace Brethren Church with Rev. Curtis Bryant officiating. Friends may call at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett, on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, at the Church on Friday from 10:00 until the hour of service and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com.
