Coolidge F. "Smitty" Smith

Coolidge F. "Smitty" Smith, 85, of Everett, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 26, 2011. He was born July 7, 1925 in Everett, a son of the late Earl Smith and Mary Ethel (Price) Smith. On May 22, 1946, he married Doris Jean (Howser) Smith, who survives along with their children, Judith Wareham, of Bedford Kevin Smith and wife Sallie, of Everett Kelly Smith and fiancé Brenda Rice, of Bedford 4 grandchildren, Kevin Todd Smith and wife Trena, of Everett Dustin Smith, of Altoona Jason Smith, of Breezewood Matthew Wareham, of Bedford and 2 great grandchildren Hayley Smith and Devin Smith of Everett. He was preceded in passing away by a brother Cleon Smith, a sister Mary Scalia, and a son in law, Robert Wareham, Jr. In their younger years, Mr. Smith and his wife attended the Everett Church of the Brethren. He first worked as a dairy farmer for the Elmer Foor family, later working at the Gateway Travel Plaza as a fuel attendant. His work at the Gateway lead him to Everett Fulton Radio Sales, also known as Par Gas, a local company that sold appliances and propane fuel. He also served as a security guard, was an Everett Borough Police Officer, and was employed with the maintenance department at the Everett Borough Municipal Authority, serving as the water plant Superintendent. He then worked as a custodian for the Everett Area School District, helping with maintenance and repairs at all facilities, until retiring. Smitty, as he was known to family and friends, was a member of the Everett Fire Company #1 for over 55 years, joining the Honor Roll in 1989, was a Deputy for the Bedford County Sheriff's Department and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. At home, he enjoyed playing cards, hunting, and was always willing to lend a helping hand and will be greatly missed for his well known sense of humor. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 2, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Chapel at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett, with Rev. Curtis Bryant officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, on Monday from 10:00 am until the hour of service and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com. Burial will be held at Bedford County Memorial Park. The Everett Fire Company #1 will conduct a Resolution of Respect Sunday evening at 7:30.
