David John Casteel

David J. Casteel, 80, of Bedford, PA, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

 

He was born in Bedford, PA, on April 9, 1944, a son of the late George and Helen (McDaniel) Casteel.

 

On March 18, 1964, he married Nancy (Hixon) Casteel, who passed away on April 14, 2014.

 

David is survived by two daughters, Donna J. Mowry and husband, Edwin, and Karen Valine and husband, Alan; four grandchildren, Rustyn Page, Tyler Mowry, Alexis Moses, and Alexander Calhoun; six great-grandchildren, Caden, Jaxson, Jianna, Cyleigh, Raelynn, and Greysen Page; and six step great-grandchildren, Justin, Haylea, Trysten, Arianna, Kaiser, and Paislea.

 

In addition to his parents and wife, David was preceded in passing by a brother, Wayne Casteel and special girlfriend, Joyce Brallier.

 

After graduating from high school, he attended Dickinson’s Law School where he earned High Honors in law enforcement training. David went to work for Standard Register for many years. Following that, he was a Deputy Sheriff at the Sheriff's Office, Chief Deputy at the Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Warden at the Bedford County Jail, and finally a State Prison Guard for the Maryland Department of Corrections.

 

David enjoyed many things throughout his life. He found pleasure in having dinner at Denny’s, then getting an ice cream treat at the Igloo. Rooting for his hometown team, he found happiness in watching Bedford High School football games. David found that his love of hunting with his son-in-law, provided them with a close connection to the wilderness. It offered the challenge and sense of achievement using great skill and having a lot of patience.

 

He was a very religious man, who attended church his entire life.

 

David loved his family unconditionally. He had a deep affection and respect for every member, especially his grandchildren. Time spent with them was always a blessing to him.

 

A memorial service will be held on August 22, 2024, at 6:30 PM, at Spring Meadows Church, New Paris, PA, with refreshments to follow.
