David L. "Jake" Dunkle, 78, of Everett, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2011, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. He was born July 25, 1933 in Everett, a son of the late David R. Dunkle and Gladys (Whetstone) Dunkle. On February 21, 1959 in Cumberland Maryland, he married Dixie L. (Cordell) Dunkle, his wife of over 52 years, who will cherish his memory along with their children, Deborah (Dunkle) Jones, and husband John F. Jones, of Staunton, Virginia David C. Dunkle, of Everett Michael C. Dunkle, and wife Janice (Rizer) Dunkle, of Everett Stacy J. Dunkle, and wife Regina (Taylor) Dunkle, of Everett 10 grandchildren a great grandson 4 sisters, Helen Jones, of Everett Mary Ann Foor, and husband Kenneth Foor, of Everett Carol Molovich, of Everett and Linda McQuaite and husband Charles McQuaite, of McConnellsburg. He was preceded in passing away by 2 sisters, Catherine Dunkle and Margaret Seigrist, and a brother, Frank Dunkle. Early in his lifetime, Mr. Dunkle was a member of the Everett Church of the Brethren. After high school, David worked as an automobile parts salesman, and then served in the United States Army as a Corporal with the 568th Ordnance Heavy Maintenance Company during the Korean War, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal, then servicing in the United States Army Reserve. After his service to his country, David the worked as a heavy equipment operator for New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, at Old Bedford Village as a stone mason, and then was employed with JLG Industries as a machine assembler until retiring. He was a member of the Everett American Legion Post #8, the Everett VFW Post #2088 and at home, enjoyed working on projects around the house both inside and outside, and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Chapel at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett, with Pastor Melvin VanOrman officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, on Thursday from 10:00 am until the hour of service and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com. Burial will be held at Everett Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the Everett Honor Guard.
