Dorothy G. (Gump) Hanks

Dorothy G. Hanks, 89, of Everett, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday June 28, 2012. She was born Saturday, January 13, 1923 in Huntingdon, a daughter of the late William A. Gump, Sr. and Georgia (Zembower) Gump. On January 10, 1946 at the United Methodist Church in Huntingdon, she married Harry E. Hanks who survives along with their son Thomas L. Hanks and wife Patricia A. (Garrigan) Hanks, of Chambersburg, 4 grandsons, Brian Hanks and wife Nicola David Hanks and wife Lura Cameron Hibshman Branden Hibshman and wife Nicole 6 great grandchildren, Sarah, Nathan, Amber, Natalie, Weston and Evan. She was preceded in passing away by 6 sisters, Arvilla Rohn, Helen Tuchalski, Virginia Varner, Lois Stefl, Betty Jane Cox, and Evelyn Gump and 3 brothers, Elwood T. Gump, Edward Gump and William A. Gump, Jr. Mrs. Hanks was a member of the Everett United Methodist Church for over 60 years where she was an active member of the United Methodist Women. She was a graduate of Huntingdon High School Class of 1941, and after graduation, worked at Shaffer's Store and General Finance in Huntingdon. After moving to Everett, she was a seamstress at Barndollar Men's Shop and Beck's Men's Shop for over 23 years until retiring. A dedicated homemaker, Dorothy was a great cook who enjoyed caring for her home and family. She was a collector of Hummel figurines and was thoughtful of many different pets and animals, making her own donations to our local humane societies throughout the years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister who will be remembered for her caring and friendly ways. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 2, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Chapel at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett, with Pastor Debi Decker officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, on Monday from 10:00 am until the hour of service and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com. Burial will be held at Everett Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Dorothy to the Bedford County Humane Society, 1108 Lutzville Road, Everett, PA 15537.
