Franklin E. "Barney" Barnett

Franklin E. "Barney" Barnett, Jr., 86, of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home and Everett, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 19, 2012. He was born December 29, 1925 in Everett, a son of the late Franklin E. Barnett, Sr., and Ella J. (Sparks) Barnett. On January 23, 1949 he married Maye D. (Clark) Barnett who passed away on January 22, 1977. He is survived by his sister, Jean I. Barney, and husband Jack S. Barney of Everett a niece, Jill Barney of Springfield, Virginia and a nephew Jere Barney of Everett. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in passing away by his special friend of 20 years Flora Mellott and a brother James Barnett and his special friend Betty Gorsuch. Barney, as he was known to family and friends was a graduate of Everett High School Class of 1944. He then served in the United States Army during World War II as a Clerk Typist earning the M-1 Rifle Marksmanship. After returning home from his military service, he began his lifelong work as a clerk at several local grocery stores including Horton's Grocery Store in Everett and Jack's Groceries and Lowry's IGA in Bedford until retiring. Always willing to work and lend a hand, Barney also worked as a projector operator and at the Everett Theater and the drive in movie theater in Pennwood. At home enjoyed working on his 1965 AMC Ambassador sedan, driving it in local parades and earning many trophies at different car shows as a member of the Fort Bedford Antique Car Club, and he will be remembered as a kind and generous brother and friend who would give "the shirt off his back" of he knew you needed it. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Chapel at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett, with Pastor Frank Wheeland officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, on Thursday from 10:00 am until the hour of service and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com. Burial will be held at Everett Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Everett Honor Guard.
