He was born September 7, 1923 at his family home in East Providence Township, a son of the late Daniel Weist and Mary (Giffin) Weist. At the Everett Church of God he married Ida Mary (Moore Smeltzer) Weist, who passed away on July 20, 1995. He is survived by his sister Sarah (Weist) Horton, and husband Merle J. Horton, of Everett 4 stepchildren, Roy C. Smeltzer and wife Catherine (Clark) Smeltzer, of Everett Clara Jane Smeltzer, of Bedford David H. Smeltzer, and wife Sandy (Waltman) Smeltzer, of Willow Street Evelyn E. McMasters, and husband David L. McMasters, of Bloomington, Ohio 12 step grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in passing away by a stepson, James L. Smeltzer, 2 sisters, Cleo Clouse and Betty Barnes, and 2 brothers, Elmer Weist and Daniel B. Weist. Mr. Weist was a member of the Mountain Chapel Church in Breezewood for many years, helping in the construction of the new church building. Glenn first worked as a coalminer in the Broad Top area mines, and in March of 1957, enrolled in the Seafarer's Union in Buffalo New York, serving as a seaman with the Merchant Marines for over 30 years until retiring. After retiring, he enjoyed working with his son Roy, farming and cutting timber, being a man who knew how to "swing an axe." He could be heard singing Christian songs at Church or anytime he was around and about, even making up some songs to entertain his children and grandchildren. Always willing to have a good time and making light of the day, he will be greatly missed.
