Harry D. Sleighter, 71, of Friends Cove, was called to Heaven from his home on Tuesday, February 12th, 2013, following a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born Friday, January 9th, 1942 at his family home in Everett, a son of the late Dennis Abram Sleighter and Maxine (Householder) Sleighter. He is survived by his loving and devoted friend and companion Karen Morse, and eight children, Susan Sleighter and fiancé Galen Hall, of York Springs Scott Sleighter and wife Lisa (Bussard) Sleighter, of Everett Synda Balton and husband Raymond, of San Antonio, Texas Aimee (Hicks) Steed and husband Monte, of Everett Andrew Hicks, of Altoona Matthew Hicks and wife Melissa (Richards) Hick, of Everett Annie (Sleighter) Dinnocenti and husband Barry, of Everett Amber (Morse) Clark, and husband Perry, of Mench Eleven grandchildren 3 sisters, Karen Paden of North Carolina, Brenda (Sleighter) Replogle, and husband Dennis, of Hopewell, Debbie (Sleighter) Babcock and husband William, of North Carolina a brother Lance Sleighter and wife Vicki (Imes) Sleighter, of Everett Friend and neighbor, Dennis Heltzel, of Friends Cove Several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families, many friends and his two canine pals, Molly and Duke, who all played very important roles in his life and will miss him dearly. He was preceded in passing away by his wife Charlotte "Charlie" (Faupel) Sleighter, a son Jeffrey Sleighter, a sister Diane Pryde, and a brother Shane Sleighter. Harry was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Everett and attended the Trans Run United Methodist Church in Friends Cove. He was a graduate of Everett Southern Joint High School Class of 1960, attended the Stanton Military Academy in Stanton, Virginia from 1955 through 1957, and attended Catherman's Business School in Cumberland before going to work with his father and uncle Willard at H.C. Sleighter Furniture Store in Everett, starting off his career installing carpeting and other flooring. Later in his lifetime, Harry, his brother Lance and cousin in law Mark, bought the store where Harry was manager for over 55 years until retiring in 2010. He founded and headed up the Unknown's Motorcycle Club, a forerunner to his membership of the Bloody Run Motorcycle Club, and truly enjoyed riding his Harley, camping, off road riding with his ATV, and was an avid NASCAR Racing and football fan who will be missed for his easy going way. A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 17th, 2013 at 4:00 pm at the Trans Run United Methodist Church with Pastor Beth Pyles officiating. Friends may call at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, on Sunday at the Church from 3:00 pm until the hour of service and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com.
