James Keifer Obituary

James L. "Jimmie" Keifer, 87, of Orchard Heights, Bedford, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 22nd, 2012. He was born Sunday, February 1st, 1925 in Johnstown, a son of the late Beatrice E. (Shaffer) Huffman and her first husband, Carl L. Keifer. On January 26, 1951 he married Betty Jean (Henderson) Keifer, who survives along with their children, Roxanne B. Felts, of Norristown James R. "J.R." Keifer, and wife Mary Ann (Foor) Keifer, of Bedford 2 granddaughters, Rhiannon Mayer and Logan Felts a grandson, Garrett Keifer a sister, Marjorie M. Hyde, of Martinsburg a nephew Fred C. Hyde, and wife Susan M. (Wentling) Hyde, of Mars and their children Austin and Amanda an aunt, Betty J. Rohm, of Duncansville, and many loving cousins, friends, and their families. He was preceded in passing away an infant niece Kelly Lynne Hyde, a niece Sherry Denise Hyde, and a brother in law, Fred C. Hyde. Mr. Keifer was a member of the Bedford United Methodist Church and the Bedford Lodge #320 F&AM. He served in the United States Navy During World War II as Seaman First Class aboard the USS Cleburne and the USS San Marcos in the Pacific Reserve Fleet, later serving in the United States Naval Reserve until October of 1955. In 1969 and 1972, he received Certificates of Appreciation for his contributions to the National and Selective Service System. After returning home from his service to our country, Jimmie worked for John Williams Tile Company in Bedford for over 20 years, and then was employed a meter reader for Penelec until retiring in 1978. He then worked as a legislative representative for State Representative Dick Hess. At home, Jimmie enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, was an avid hunter and fisherman who also enjoyed racing and sporting events, and was a loving husband, father and grandfather and his support of his family will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 27th, 2012 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett, with Jim Miller officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, on Tuesday from 11:00 am until the hour of service and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com. Burial will be held at Bedford County Memorial Park with military honors conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard. The Bedford Lodge #320 F&AM will conduct services at the funeral home on Monday at 7:30 pm.
