James Smith Obituary

James A. "Jim" Smith, 71, of Breezewood, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2011. He was born May 15, 1940, a son of the Ivan L. "Ipe" Smith of Everett, and the late Velma Irene (Ritchey) Smith. In addition to his father, he is survived by his former wife, Jean (Weicht) Smith, of New Port Richey, Florida, and their 2 daughters, Laurie S. Smith, of New Port Richey Debbie L. Smith, of Spring Hill, Florida 3 sons, Kenny A. Smith and wife Jackie (Foor) Smith, of Everett Barry J. Smith, of Palmyra Michael D. Smith, and wife Dawn, of Tampa, Florida, 13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and 2 brothers, Ivan L. Smith, Jr., and wife Dorothy (Walters) Smith, of Breezewood Gary Smith, and wife Patty (Lynch) Smith, of Everett and many loving nieces, nephews, friends, and their families. He was preceded in passing away by a daughter Cathy Jo Smith, and a niece, Kelly J. (Smith) Barton. Jim was a life long member of the Mt. Pleasant Union Lutheran Church in Mattie. He first began working as a carpenter with the Carpenters Local Union #1419 in Johnstown, later working for Hench Brothers, Inc. in Altoona and for Clark Contractors, Inc. in Bedford. He then worked as a self employed carpenter for many years until retiring. He was a member of the Breezewood VFW Post #8333, Everett American Legion Post #8, and enjoyed playing guitar with his friends in the band known as "Country Light Up." At home he was an avid hunter and woodworker and was a dedicated son, father, grandfather, and brother, who was always willing to lend a hand, and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett, with Rev. Bruce Maxwell officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, on Saturday at the funeral home from 1:00 pm until the hour of service and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com. Burial will be held at Stevens Chapel Cemetery.
