Joan (Harper) Crawford

Joan Crawford, 79, of Artemas, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 4th, 2014. She was born Thursday, September 20, 1934 in Cumberland, a daughter of the late Roy Harper and Katie (Allen) Harper. On January 26, 1952 in Berkeley Springs, she married Earl Crawford who passed away on March 23, 1988, and is survived by their daughters, Diana Crawford and friend Glen, of York Janet Winslow and husband William Winslow of Discovery Bay, California Four sisters, Jean Howsare and husband Dwight Howsare, of North Carolina Jackie Valentine, of Bedford Janie Tew and husband Harvey Tew, of Everett Joy Kay Potts and husband Jerry Potts, of Artemas Three grandchildren, Jason Barnes, Jamie Foor, Carrie Ann Chappell Four great-grandchildren, Two sisters-in-law, Vada Harper of Warfordsburg and Norma Harper of Cumberland, And many loving nieces, nephews cousins and their families. She was preceded in passing away by two brothers, John Webster Harper and Luther Joe Harper. Mrs. Crawford was a member of the Fairview Christian Church where she served as a member of the Women's Fellowship. After attending Everett High School, she then studied cosmetology at the Altoona Beauty School, running her own salon in her home while raising her children and caring for her family. Always friendly and nice, Joan enjoyed playing piano and loved singing for her family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, styling hair for her friends who could no longer come to her beauty shop, and will be remembered for her pleasant smile, the happiness she shared, and her eyes that would light up the room. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 8th, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Fairview Christian Church with Rev. Milton Morris officiating. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the hour of service and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com. Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery.
