John H. Dishong Jr.

John H. Dishong, Jr., 88, of Everett, was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 14, 2011. He was born February 28, 1923 in Lutzville, a son of the late John H. Dishong, Sr. and Rhoda (Grubb) Dishong. On September 12, 1942 in Winchester, Virginia, he married Zurelda M. "Deanie" Dishong who passed away on May 8th, 2003. He is survived by their son Roger Dale Dishong and wife Mary (Livingood) Dishong, of Forest City, A special nephew, Rodney Bulger, and wife Pat, of Fayetteville 2 sisters, Gladys "Sally" Good, of Johnstown Patricia Miller, of Harrisonburg, Virginia 2 grandchildren Nicole Dishong and John H. Dishong, III and wife Cheryl, and 2 great grandchildren, Kayla and Austin, and caring friend and neighbor Pam Hofacker. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in passing away by 5 sisters, Nellie Younker, Vera Beegle, Mary Grant, Ruth Helsel, and Faye Pittman, and 2 brothers, William C. "Bud" Dishong and James N. Dishong. Mr. Dishong was a member of the First Christian Church in Everett. Early in his lifetime he worked at a bakery and then as a coal truck driver, and after becoming a member of the Joined Operating Engineers Union Local #66 in Pittsburgh, with a 61 year membership, he worked as a crane operator, building bridges, tunnels and turnpikes in the northeast area of the country. For over 35 of those years, he was employed with W.P. Dickerson & Son, Inc. in Pittsburgh, operating crane until retiring in 1987. After retiring, John enjoyed collecting and working on motorcycles and bicycles, riding his cycle until the fall of 2010, and enjoyed tinkering with just about anything mechanical. He loved going to auctions and flea markets, and was always willing to lend a hand. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 18, 2011 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett, with Rev. Robert R. Robertson officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 to 9:00 pm, on Friday from 1:00 pm until the hour of service and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com. Burial will be held at Everett Cemetery.
