John C. Miller, 86, of Everett, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 12th, 2013. He was born Monday, November 15th, 1926 in Port Matilda, a son of the late William H. Miller and Arwilla (Stiver) Miller. On August 12th, 1950 in Silver Hills, Maryland, he married Shirley L. (Steele) Miller who survives along with their two sons, James Carey Miller of Artemas John Howard Miller of Baltimore, Maryland and a granddaughter Melinda Dawn Lewis, of Edgewater, Maryland. John attended the Everett Church of the Brethren and after attending Tyrone High School, was employed as an auto mechanic at City Motors in Tyrone. In 1948, John enlisted with the United States Air Force for 4 years, with his tour being extended with the outbreak of the Korean Conflict, serving as a Sergeant with the 1100th Supply Squadron at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington D.C. working as a Trailer Truck Driver and earning his Graduate Equivalency Degree. After service to his country, John owned and operated ATI, his own automobile repair company in Silver Spring, Maryland for almost 8 years until its closure, then becoming employed with the University of Maryland at College Park for 8 years. Going back to his roots in repair, John became certified in Heating and Refrigeration Repair, opening Miller Refrigeration and Heating Company in Hyattsville, Maryland, which he owned and operated until retiring to Everett in 1995, bringing a smaller version of his company with him, doing work for various customers until 2011. In his spare time, John enjoyed flying his plane, puttering around in his shop, volunteering as a repairman when needed for various local organizations, and was a member of the American Legion Post #8, the Birmingham Lodge #188 F&AM, Beltsville Maryland and attended the Everett Lodge #524 F&AM. Being a "Creature of Habit", John will be missed by many for his meticulous ways, rye sense of humor, and having a heart of gold, doing his very best for anyone or anything.
