John L. Ritchey

John L. Ritchey, 89, of North Fort Myers, Florida, passed away on Saturday, February 18th, 2017 at Gulf Coast Medical Center, South Fort Myers, Florida. He was born Wednesday, December 7th, 1927 at Dr. D. R. Sipes Hospital in Everett, a son of the late J. Velma( Fletcher) Ritchey and Earl Ritchey. On March 25th, 1975, he married Annabelle Ruth "Anne" (Wingert) Ritchey who survives along with his two sisters, Julia Ann Browell and companion, Meade Dicke of North Fort Myers, V. Marlene Corley of Bedford, and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. He was preceded in passing away by an infant brother, an infant sister and four brothers, Francis E. Ritchey, Donald M. Ritchey, Austin H. Ritchey and Willard C. Ritchey. Mr. Ritchey was a former member of the First Christian Church in Everett and was presently a member of the Trinity Reform Church in Cape Coral, Florida. A graduate of Everett High School, John first served in the United States Army from 1946-1948 as a Corporal on the USS Comfort, a hospital ship built, commanded and crewed by the Navy for the Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, traveling to the Philippines, Guam, Okinawa, Japan and Korea. After returning home from his service to our country, John drove milk truck for his family farms, was a driver for Tri County Bulk Milk Haulers in Everett, and then drove truck for Eastern Express in Bedford. After moving to Florida he was employed with Gulf American Transportation and Exxon-Robison Oil until retiring. A true Boston Red Sox fan, John looked forward to working as an usher at the Red Sox Lee County "Fenway South" spring training program. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, "crabbing" at the Cape Coral inlet and traveling on cruises and vacationing in Las Vegas with his wife Anne. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 28th, 2017 at 11:00 am in the Chapel at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett with Rev. Robert R. Robertson officiating with full military honors conducted by the Everett Honor Guard. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the hour of service and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com. Private burial will be held at Everett Cemetery. .
