L. Donald "Smitty" Smith, 68, of Houston, TX, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 27th, 2015, after fighting a courageous battle with COPD. He was born Sunday, April 7th, 1946 at Sipes Hospital in Everett, a son of the late Hazel M. (Morris) Smith and Ralph D. Smith, formerly of Bedford, now of Douglasville, GA. He was formerly married to Theresa Fickes of Bedford, and on April 12th, 1998 in Texas, he married Norma Jean Smith, who survives along with his son, Troy Donald Smith and wife Kelli (Kozicki) Smith of Imler, A stepdaughter, Dusty Espinoza and husband Steve Espinoza of Houston, Four grandchildren, Tyler Smith and Morgan Smith of Fishertown, and Victoria Espinoza and Steve Espinoza, Jr. of Houston, One brother, Kenneth R. Smith and wife Debra (Williams) Smith of Everett, A niece, Jessica E. (Smith) Abbott and husband Brad D. Abbott of Menchtown, A nephew Scott Smith and wife Desiree Barnes of New Paris, A great-niece, Cecilia Mae Smith, And a great-nephew, Ryan Lane Smith, And many loving friends and their families. A graduate of Bedford High School, Class of 1964, Smitty enlisted in 1966, where he served through 1970, in the United States Marine Corp serving in the Vietnam War, where he proudly earned both the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Valentry and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was employed throughout his lifetime as a service writer for various auto dealerships, and most recently as an insurance estimator for various body shops in Texas, until retiring. An avid fisherman, Smitty spent as much time as he could out in the Gulf fishing, and when you sat down to reminisce about the good ole days, you could find yourself lost in hours of talk. He was loved by all who knew him and will be remembered for his caring and considerate ways.
