M. Keibler Obituary

M. Larue Keibler, 97, of Artemas and Hyattstown, Maryland, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 10, 2016. She was born Friday, May 30th, 1919 at The Daffodil Farm in Boquet, Penn Township, Westmoreland County, a daughter of the late Roy Hollaway Fink and Vallie Larue (Blank) Fink. On June 13, 1946 she married Ralph H. Keibler who passed away on April 21st, 2004. She is survived by their three daughters and son who she loved so much, Karen L. Keibler, Lois E. Jacobs and husband Dr. Irwin C. Jacobs, Rita H. Newman and husband Timothy Newman, Layne F. Keibler, 4 grandchildren, Josephine Aumer, Margaret Baumhardt, Mark Newman and Hilary Newman; 7 great grandchildren, Andreas, Henry and Charles Aumer, Eliza and Rosemary Baumhardt, Rory Newman, and Sophia Potter, and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in passing away by a sister Anna Mary Anderson Wampler and a brother Glenn H. Fink. Mrs. Keibler was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Clearville where she previously taught Sunday school and was a devoted Lutheran church member throughout her lifetime. She and her sister Anna Mary attended class at a one-room schoolhouse and she was a graduate of Jeanette High School, Class of 1937. As one of the first women to complete higher education in her community, Larue graduated from the Westmoreland Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse and was the first nurse in her community to administer a injection of penicillin. She went on to have a long career as an RN, keeping an active membership with the Westmoreland Hospital Nurses Alumni, working as a private duty RN at Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg and retiring in 1970 from the Obstetrics Unit at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, Maryland. Being raised on The Daffodil Farm in Boquet, a working dairy farm named for an acre of daffodils that bloomed every spring, she learned to farm at an early age. Larue told stories of her mother driving her and her sister into town and to the surrounding areas to sell the daffodils for 10 cents a dozen to pay for the taxes on the farm. During her high school years, she helped her mother by delivering plucked chickens to local restaurants, hanging the chickens in her locker until lunch hour when it was time to make her deliveries. Moving to Hyattstown in the mid 1960's, Larue was a talented watercolor painter who also painted on china. With her farming experience, retiring to Artemas was a natural for her, raising sheep, cattle, goats, and chickens. She enjoyed flower & vegetable gardening, canning, sewing, knitting and crocheting, especially knitting baby hats on her loom for the Ronald McDonald House and Hats for Babies. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband Ralph, especially their trips to the Holy Land and Alaska, and will be remembered for the wonderful family gatherings she hosted, helping to make happy memories for all of her family and friends.
