Phyllis LaVerne Snyder, 89, of Lower Snake Spring Valley Road, passed away on Sunday, June 18.
She was born on April 24, 1934, daughter of Albert and Alice (Miller) Pensyl of Spring Hope. They preceded her in death along with three brothers: Stanley, George, and Carl Pensyl.
In 1954 she married Robert W. Snyder of Snake Spring Valley, who passed away in 1993. She is survived by the following: daughters Christine (Gary) Hollis, Angelia (Dr. Theodore) Chiappelli, Diane, and son Dennis (Amy); grandchildren Micah (Tara) Hollis and Kirsten (Ben) Hinson, Jeremiah (Jessica), Josiah (Stephanie), Joshua (Sarah), and Janessa Chiappelli; and great-grandchildren Raphael,Jillian, Cassie, Zander, Leonardo, Sonja, and Lulabelle Chiappelli, and Avery, Levi, Liam, and Brody Hinson. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces.
Phyllis was a member of the Snake Spring Valley Church of the Brethren, where she served as deaconess, Sunday School teacher, and member of the Women’s fellowship group. She sang in the church choir.
She was a member of the first graduating class of Chestnut Ridge (Joint) High School, where she played the violin in the school orchestra.
Phyllis loved sewing, working on the family farm, growing her garden, taking care of the family pets, and most of all, her family. She enjoyed watching TV, with the Andy Griffith Show and MASH among her favorites.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Raystown Ambulance Association, Everett Fire Company, Bedford County Humane Society, Garvey Manor Nursing Home, or Snake Spring Valley Church of the Brethren.
Viewing from 9:30-11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 24, at the Snake Spring Valley Church of the Brethren, followed by the funeral service at 11:00, Pastor David Grimes officiating, and interment at Ritchey Cemetery. There will be a meal at the church afterwards.
