Rae Frances (Johnson) Barkman

Rae F. Barkman, 99, of Clearville, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 19th, 2014 with her family at her side. She was born Friday, July 17th 1914 at her family home in Clearville, a daughter of the late Arthur O. Johnson and Zerelda A. (Barkman) Johnson. On May 7th, 1937 in New City, New York, she married Frank R. Barkman who passed away on April 18th, 1986. She is survived by their children, Joseph W. Barkman and wife Sommai, of Parksburg Frances Bloom and husband Gene, of Perkasie Martha Spinler and Richard Grant, of San Diego, California Stella Lipsinic and husband Frank, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Fifteen grandchildren, Seventeen great grandchildren, And three great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in passing away by two grandchildren, a daughter Lois Clark, and a son Charlie Barkman. Mrs. Barkman was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Everett for over 30 years. A graduate of Everett High School and at the age of 18, a graduate of the State Teachers College at Shippensburg, Rae spent her first year of teaching at a one room schoolhouse in Chaneysville, riding two miles on horseback from home to the school. She went on to teach elementary school for 36 years with the Everett Area School District until retiring. While teaching full time, Rae not only raised her six children, she also helped operate her family farm, gardening, cooking, and canning, stocking up to 1800 canned fruits and vegetables at her home. During her retirement, she was fortunate enough to have five of her grandchildren live with her for 10 years, with the love, caring, and education of her family being the most important part of her life. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 26th, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, Everett, with Rev. Derek Fairman officiating. Friends may call at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett, on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, on Saturday from 10:00 am until departure for the Church, and share memories online at dallavalle-everett.com. Burial will be held at Frame Cemetery.
