Raphael Monsanto Obituary

Raphael A. "Ray" Monsanto, 66, of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, took refuge with the Lord on Wednesday, June 12, 2013. He was born October 3, 1946 in New York City, a son of the late Rafael A. Monsanto and Margarita (Velazquez) Monsanto. He was a loving husband to Benita J. Rohm, who survives along with his brother, Gilberto Monsanto & wife Alba, of Davenport, Florida a sister, Margarita (Monsanto) Garcia & husband Miguel, of Atlanta, Georgia, a brother-in-law and good friend, Brian Rohm, of Duncansville, Pennsylvania his mother-in-law, Betty J. Rohm, also of Duncansville. a nephew, Gilberto Monsanto & niece Melissa Monsanto, a great nephew & great niece, Gabriel Monsanto & Victoria Annette Monsanto, and countless friends, family and acquaintances whose lives he touched . Ray loved the Lord, and with his wife Benita, has hosted a Bible Study in their home for several years, facilitated by the Apostle Ellis B. Smith of the Jubilee City Church in Detroit. Through this Bible Study and living in a way that those who knew him would come to know God, Ray made many dear and close friends. Raised in New York City, he first earned an associates degree from the Academy of Aeronautics, then a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from New York University Polytechnic Institute, and subsequently received his Juris Doctorate of Law from New York University, meriting him the status of Juris Doctor, or "Teacher of Legal Knowledge." A practicing patent attorney with his own intellectual property law firm, Rohm & Monsanto, PLC, he was also a skilled musician throughout most of his lifetime, playing trumpet and piano both professionally and for the enjoyment of others at home. With quick wit and clarity of thought, Ray will be remembered as a kind and caring man who shared the love he carried in his heart, the knowledge of our Lord, and the laws of our land with everyone he met, and will be greatly missed for his wonderful spirit, encouragement of others, and being a friend you could share time with and always walk away with a smile on your face.
