Sandra "Carol" (Barton) Bittner

Sandra "Carol" Bittner, 77 of Chambersburg, passed away on Thursday, November 2nd 2017. She was born Wednesday, January 3rd, 1940 in Everett, a daughter of the late Charles Barton and Lydia (Beeler) Barton. In 1962 she married Elmer L. Bittner who passed away on March 21st, 1996. She is survived by her daughter Lynn Penrod of Everett, A stepdaughter Donna Layton of Bedford, A stepson Danny Bittner of Woodbridge, Virginia, Four sisters, Lois Walters and husband Paul Walters, Jr. of New Paris Karen Weist and husband Terry Weist of Everett, Linda Francis of Greencastle, Susan Foor and husband Jerry Foor of Everett, A grandson Jesse, 3 step granddaughters, Christina, Tacy and Kayla, a step grandson James, and many more loving great great-grandchildren, family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in passing away by a sister Joy Ann Barton and a brother-in-law William E. Francis. Carol was a graduate of Southern Fulton High School and after graduation worked as a waitress in Bedford. After moving to Virginia, she worked as an administrative assistant with American Financial in Manassas, studying banking along the way, working her way up to the position of a financial manager of personal loans, mortgages and collections. She was an avid reader of all literature, especially murder mysteries, who could read a novel a day while watching television. Known to her community and friends as the "Book Lady," Carol also enjoyed caring for her home and family and will be remembered for her smile and pleasant laughter. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 7th, 2017 at 6:00 pm in the chapel at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett with Rev. Curtis Bryant officiating. Family and friends my call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 pm until the hour of service. In addition to flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Carol to the funeral home.
