Shirley Payne Obituary

Shirley Payne, 68, of Clearville, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 18th, 2013 with family at her side. She was born Thursday, October 19th, 1944 in Washington, D.C., a daughter of the late James H. Houser and Florence (Test) Houser. On August 4th, 1961 she married Joseph D. "Joe" Payne who survives along with their children, Joseph D. Payne, Jr., and wife Janet, of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland Shirley Ann Payne of Julian San Diego County, California James Steven Payne of Clearville Two grandsons, Louis Payne and Adam Payne A brother Robert Houser of Texas, A sister in law, Helen McMillan, of Clearville Two brothers in law, Elwood Houser and wife Lillian of Hyattsville, Maryland and Lee Roy Houser and wife Mae of Stewartstown, and many loving nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in passing away by a sister Mable Settle, and two brothers, William "Billy" Houser and James "Jimmie" Houser. Shirley attended church at the Rock Hill Christian Fellowship and previously attended the First Christian Church in Everett. Earlier in her lifetime she was surgical nurse at Prince Georges County Hospital, later working as a home health care nurse in the Everett area until retiring. She was also a school bus driver for the Prince Georges County Schools and a van driver for Linda L Foor Transportation for the Everett Area School District. . A talented majorette in her younger days who once marched in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Shirley enjoyed spending time at home cutting grass with the lawn tractor, traveling with her family to the beach and spending time on the water fishing or swimming. A devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, she will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 23rd, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Chapel at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett with Pastor Fran Scott officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, on Monday from 10:00 am until the hour of service and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com. Burial will be held at Everett Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Shirley to the funeral home.
