Trent McPherson Obituary

Trent O. McPherson, 90, of Everett, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 15th, 2013 . He was born Thursday, October 5th, 1922 in Des Moines, Iowa, a son of the late Trent O. McPherson, Sr., and Joy (Dean) McPherson. On July 5th, 1941 in the state of Missouri, he married Donna M. (Frank) McPherson who passed away on Wednesday, August 5th, 2009. He is survived by their children, Shelley J. McPherson of Columbia, MD, Timothy T. McPherson and wife Marie (Livingston) McPherson of Clearville, and Christian S. McPherson of Chambersburg; 2 grandchildren, Trent McPherson and Timothy McPherson of Chambersburg. 3 nieces, Katie Hess of Seattle, Washington Ruth Terrell of Des Moines, Iowa and Vickie Engel of Keokuk, Iowa, And a nephew, Mark Terrell of Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in passing away by 3 sisters Lillian, Katherine, and Julia. Mr. McPherson was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Everett where he served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the Church Council. A graduate of East Des Moines High School. Class of 1940, Trent first worked as an office clerk, operating a comptometer (the precursor to calculators and computers) for electronic billing, invoicing, inventories and typing. In 1941, he enlisted in the United States Army during World War II serving in the European Theater as a First Lieutenant in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe, supervising the construction, installation, operation and maintenance of the communication supply equipment for his unit, receiving the Bronze Star Medal for heroic action, 3 Overseas Bars, the EAME Theater Ribbon with 5 bronze Battle Stars and the Croiz de guerre from the Belgium government. After his service to our country, Trent and his wife Donna moved to the Washington D.C. area where he earned his Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees at George Washington University while working with the Department of Health and Human Services, now known as the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, with the National Institutes of Health and the Social Security Administration for over 30 years until retiring. During his career with the DHEW, Trent received numerous awards including two awards during the Nixon administration for serving on the White House Conference on Aging and the White House Conference on Children and Youth. A member of the Lions Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Trent enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, volunteering his time with local organizations, a trait he happily instilled in his children, and will be remembered for being a wonderful father, a dedicated husband for over 68 years, and an all around great guy with a good sense of humor who was generous and dependable when you needed good advice. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 15th, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Zion Lutheran Church, Everett, with Rev. David Wright officiating. Friends may call at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00pm, on Saturday at the Church from 10:00am until the hour of service and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com. Along with flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Trent to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011. Burial will be held at Everett Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Everett Honor Guard. .
