Warren Showalter Obituary

Warren E. Showalter, 92, of Everett, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 21, 2013. He was born Tuesday, January 25th, 1921 at his family home in West Providence Township, a son of the late Earl Showalter and Mary (Snow) Showalter. On November 12, 1938 in Hagerstown, Maryland, he married Velma R. (Lane) Showalter who passed away on November 30th, 1973. In June of 1980, he married Eunice Rosentrator who passed away on October 8th, 2006. He is survived by three children, Donald Showalter and wife Deanna (Bollman) Showalter, of Everett Linda Yingling and husband Dwight Yingling, of St. Cloud, Florida Darlene McFarland, and partner George Thompson, of Everett Nine Grandchildren, Tami Kinser, Tina Moore, Donald Showalter, Vicki Zeth, Dwight Yingling, Jr., Allen McFarland, Jr., Tracy McFarland, Ronald Showalter, and Shawn McFarland Sixteen great grandchildren Four great great-grandchildren A sister Gertrude Claycomb and husband Conrad Claycomb, of Everett Two brothers, Arlen Showalter and wife Edna (Wallace) Showalter, of Everett Dewey Showalter and wife Carol (Valentine) Showalter, of Everett A sister in law, Lola (Handy) Showalter. And many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. He was preceded in passing away by three sisters, Grace Duvall, Stella Paige, and Garnet Waite, and two brothers, William Showalter and David Showalter. Mr. Showalter was a member of the First Christian Church of Everett. After finishing his education at the Earlston Public School, Warren began working at Everett Hardwood Lumber Company as a machinist until entering the United States Navy during World War II. There he trained at NTS Great Lakes as a Coxswain (the person in charge of a boats navigation and steering,) serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and the American Theater aboard the U.S.S. Republic in San Bruno, California and Okinawa, Japan, receiving the Pacific Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Medal. After returning home, Warren was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, Local #9, Johnstown, formerly Local #4, for over 50 years, working as a foreman for Showalter Masonry of Everett, Costello Construction and many other construction companies until retiring. A founding member of the Everett Sportsman's Club, who helped in the purchase of the land and construction of the Clubs buildings, Warren was an avid hunter and fisherman who later in life enjoyed watching Western movies and the natural surroundings of his home. He loved to see the smiles on the faces of his children and grandchildren as he played his harmonica and will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 26th, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Chapel at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett with Rev. Robert R. Robertson and Rev. Keith Showalter officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the hour of service and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com. Burial will be held at Everett Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Everett Honor Guard. Along with flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Warren to you charity of choice.
