Winifred Weaverling Obituary

Winifred V. "Winnie" Weaverling, 92, of Bedford, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 21st, 2014, with family at her side. She was born Friday, November 4th, 1921 at her family home in Riddlesburg, a daughter of the late Raymond Hamm and Mary (Conley) Hamm. On July 9th, 1939 she married Roy R. Weaverling, Jr., who passed away on April 23rd, 1981. She is survived by their children, Delores D. Lantz, and husband William Lantz, of Bedford Roy I. Weaverling, III, and wife Lynne (Hockenberry) Weaverling, of New Enterprise Deborah A. Feight, and Michael Riggs, of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina Kathy M. Weaverling, of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina Cindy L. Custer, of Johnstown Eric Weaverling and wife Gina (Plummer) Weaverling, of Fishertown, 16 grandchildren 35 great grandchildren a great great-grandson and his new brother on the way, and a sister in law, Olive Hamm, of Naples, Florida In addition to her husband and parents, Winnie was preceded in passing away by a five year old daughter Sandra Lee Weaverling, a daughter Suzanna Weaverling, infant twin sisters, three brothers, Kenneth Hamm, Willis "Ike" Hamm, and Terrence (Terry) Hamm, and a son in law Danny Feight. Throughout her lifetime, Mrs. Weaverling attended various Methodist Churches near her home, and faithfully attended Chapel Services at Pennknoll Village. She was a graduate of Broad Top High School, and after her marriage to Roy, was a homemaker who enjoyed raising her children and caring for her family. Once the kids were grown, Winnie began working as a seamstress at Lion Manufacturing in Everett. In 1967, she began working as a floor supervisor at the Fairfoot Shoe Factory in Wolfsburg until its closing, then working in the kitchen and catering part of the Coach Room Restaurant in Bedford. Accepting a job at the original Sheetz store in Bedford, she worked there until retiring, but returned to work when the store reopened on Mile Level. Spending time with family was important to Winnie, especially "making a fuss" over her children and great grandchildren, playing and working on crafts with them. She also loved to cook, enjoyed bowling and working crossword puzzles, camping with her family, traveling with her friends and will be greatly missed for her terrific sense of humor. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 25th, 2014 at 11:00 am in the Chapel at Dalla valle Funeral Service, main Street, Everett with rev. David Wright officiating.
