Zane O. "Zeb" Swartzwelder

Zane O. "Zeb" Swartzwelder, 81, of Chaneysville, passed away on Thursday, October 1st, 2015. He was born Sunday, March 18th, 1934 at his family home in Clearville, a son of the late Floyd C. Swartzwelder and Mary R. (Beck) Swartzwelder. He is survived by two daughters, Lenore Swartzwelder of Arnold, Maryland and Christine Mills and husband Larry Mills of Breezewood, A son Joe Swartzwelder of Chaneysville, Two grandsons, Jerimiah Swartzwelder and Talon Penniman, A great-granddaughter Ariana Swartzwelder A brother Orien V. Swartzwelder of Texas, and 2 nieces, Vonda Benlock of Texas and Connie Fox of Texas In addition to his parents, he was preceded in passing away by his former wife Carol E. Shipley. A graduate of Everett High School, Class of 1952, Zeb entered the United States Army where he served as a Light Vehicle Driver receiving the Good Conduct Medal. After returning home from his service to his country, Zeb worked for many years as a construction surveyor with different companies in our local area, most recently working for IA Construction Corporation in Cumberland Maryland until retiring. He was a founding member of the Chaneysville Fire Company, a member of the Everett VFW Post #2088 and a longtime member of Improved Order of the Red Men Wambic Tribe #507. Zeb was an avid golf enthusiast and if the sun were out, you would most likely find him out on the links. He also enjoyed his time out in the woods hunting for mushrooms, seasonal hunting or just sitting by the creek on a quiet afternoon fishing. There were also wonderful weekends spent at the beach house with his good friend John where they'd spend many hours crabbing and enjoying each others company and conversation. Back home, you could find Zeb spending almost every night at the fire hall talking with the guys and just enjoying a cold one. A loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother and friend, he will be greatly missed for the many stories he told and his loving and caring ways. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 10th, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Chaneysville Community Church with Pastor Jonas Smith officiating. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 am until the hour of service and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com.
